Well Hello NHI! (Katie.. sorry it took me so long to hop on the bandwagon!) A little over a month ago Makenzie had the pleasure of introducing a city near and dear to our hearts, Chicago. I feel very fortunate to be spending the next 7 months in the heart of that great city. Somehow I have "graced" my way into a community that I am so undeserving of belonging to: The Recyclery Collective. I will be interning there over the next 7 months, but it's not your typical place of internship. It is a family. It is community building. It is label conscious. It is striving for a better way and making that way possible to those who can't see it. Please, if you have a second, check it out: http://www.therecyclery.org/.
For now, I will leave you with the mission statement, and rest assured I will be posting glimpses into the heart of this ministry over the next several months!
"The Recyclery Collective seeks to build community through the restoration of donated and discarded bicycles. We share resources and knowledge in order to support an affordable, independent, and sustainable mode of transportation. In this spirit of education and mutual aid, we encourage discussion about how our transportation choices affect the health of our communities and our environment."
